I was first licensed in 1958 as WV6DAL. With subsequent upgrading to Technician, General, and Advanced, my callsign became WA6DAL and remained so until 1996 when, as an Extra, I opted for the callsign K6JW.
My main interest in amateur radio is DXing, although I'm also involved in emergency communication through ARES. I'm also a VE with the ARRL VEC.
I'm a Past President of the Southern California DX Club and the Palos Verdes Amateur Radio Club, and at the International DX Convention in Visalia, California in April 2016 I was recognized as DXer of the Year for 2015, perhaps the proudest moment in my long amateur radio career.
I'm active on CW, phone, and digital modes, and have participated on several IOTA activations of Santa Catalina Island, NA-066.
My current confirmed active entity total stands at 322, with 326 worked.
