RODRIGUES ISLAND, 3B9. Kazu, M0CFW will be QRV as 3B9KW in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL to home call.

GEORGIA, 4L. Look for 4L8A to be a Single Op/Single Band on 10 meters entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via M0OXO.

CYPRUS, 5B. Jack, R2AA plans to be QRV as P3AA as a Single Op/All Band/High Power entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via via RW3RN.

TANZANIA, 5H. Ferdy, HB9DSP will be QRV as 5H3FM from Zanzibar Island, IOTA AF-032, from November 24 to December 5. Activity will be on the HF bands using SSB, FM, and FT8. QSL to home call.

YEMEN, 7O. Dima, RA9USU is QRV as 7O73T from the Diksam Plateau on Socotra Island, IOTA AF-028, until November 28. Activity is on the HF bands using mainly CW with some FT8. He plans to be active in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via UA3DX.

MALAWI, 7Q. Don, 7Q6M is QRV from Embangweni until May 13, 2024 and has been active on 160 meters. He will be a Single Op/Single Band on 10 meters entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via LoTW.

SIERRA LEONE, 9L. Shabu, M0KRI will be QRV as 9L5M from Freetown from November 24 to December 5. Activity will be on 80 to 6 meters using CW, SSB, and FT8. This includes being active on Satellite QO-100. QSL via LoTW.

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO, 9Y. Yuri, N2TTA will be QRV as 9Z4A as a Single Op entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via 9Z4A.

CHINA, BY. Look for station BY1CW to be a Multi Single/High Power entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via BA1GA.

CHILE, CE. A large group of operators will be QRV using the prefixes 3G, CB, and XR with numbers 1 to 8, and all with the suffix EW, from November 24 to 27. Activity will be on all HF bands and 6 meters using all modes, included EME. This includes being entries in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via LoTW.

EASTER ISLAND, CE0. Jorge, CE0YHF is QRV until December 10 while working at a hospital on Pascua Island, IOTA SA-001. Activity is in his spare time on 30 to 6 meters using some CW and SSB, but mostly FT8. QSL direct to home call.

CAPE VERDE, D4. Look for D4C to be a Multi/Multi entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via LoTW.

SAINT BARTHELEMY, FJ. Operators KC9SNM and KB9DVC are QRV as FJ/homecalls until November 29. They will be active as TO9T in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL TO9T via KB9DVC and all others to home calls.

WALLIS AND FUTUNA ISLANDS, FW. Jacky, ZL3CW will be QRV as FW5N from Wallis Island, IOTA OC-054, in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via LoTW. HUNGARY, HA. Sanyi, HA7VK will be QRV as HG23TISZA as a Single Op/All Band/High Power entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL to home call.

THAILAND, HS. A group of operators will be QRV as E2A as a Multi Single/High Power entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via E21EIC.

OGASAWARA, JD1. Nan, JH1HST will be QRV as JH1HST/JD1 from Chichijima, IOTA AS-031, from November 26 to 29. Activity will be on 80 to 6 meters using mainly FT8 with some CW and SSB. QSL via LoTW.

SWAINS ISLAND, KH8. Station K8R is QRV until November 30 and will be a Multi/Single entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via HA7RY. ARUBA, P4. John, W2GD is QRV as P44W from Santa Cruz as a Single Op/All Band/High Power/Assisted entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via N2MM.

SEYCHELLES, S7. A group of operators will be QRV as S79K in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via operators' instructions.

COSTA RICA, TI. Pete, VE3IKV plans to be QRV as TI5/VA3RA in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest as a Single Op/Low Power/Single Band on 10 meters entry. QSL direct to home call. ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA, V2. Bud, AA3B is QRV as V26K from Antigua as a Single Op/All Band/Low Power entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL direct to home call.

NAMIBIA, V5. Gunter, DK2WH is QRV as V51WH from Omaruru until the end of April 2024. Activity is on 160 to 10 meters, including 60 meters. QSL to home call.

CHRISTMAS ISLAND, VK9X. Yuris, YL2GM and Eugene, EA5EL are QRV as VK9XY until November 27. Activity is on 160 to 6 meters using CW, SSB, and FT8. QSL direct to YL2GN.

INDIA, VU. Operators VU2DSI, VU2EVU, and VU2XPN are QRV with special event callsigns AU2JCB, AU3JCB, and AU5JCB, respectively, until December 11 to celebrate the 165th birthday of the well-known scientist Jagadish Chandra Bose. CHATHAM ISLAND, ZL7. Holger, ZL7IO is QRV from Waitangi and plans to be QRV as a Single Op/All Band/Low Power entry in the CQ World Wide DX CW contest. QSL via DK7AO.

THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The ARRL EME Contest, CQ World Wide DX CW Contest, CWops Test, RSGB 80-Meter Autumn CW Series, NCCC FT4 Sprint, NCCC RTTY Sprint, NCCC CW Sprint, K1USN Slow Speed CW Test and the Ham Spirit SSB Contest will certainly keep contesters busy this upcoming weekend.

The QCX CW Challenge, ICWC Medium Speed CW Test, OK1WC CW Memorial, RSGB FT4 Contest and the Worldwide Sideband Activity Contest are on tap for November 27 and 28.

The K7RA Solar Update

Geomagnetic conditions were very quiet last weekend, good conditions
for the ARRL Phone Sweepstakes. But there was much more geomagnetic
activity toward the end of the reporting week, when the planetary A
index jumped to 30 and Alaska's College A index reached 60, a very
high value.

This past weekend was the CW portion of the CQ World Wide DX
Contest.

2023 Fall Section Manager Election Results

 

Two balloted Section Manager elections were conducted this fall. Ballots were counted on Tuesday, November 21, at ARRL Headquarters. All two-year terms of office will begin on January 1, 2024.

For Section Manager of the ARRL Alaska Section:

  • David Stevens, KL7EB (incumbent), received 105 votes

ARRL Headquarters to Be Closed for Thanksgiving Holiday

ARRL  The National Association for Amateur Radio® Headquarters in Newington, Connecticut, will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 23, 2023, and Friday, November 24, 2023. There will be no W1AW bulletins, code practice, or visitor operations during that time.

Former Illinois Section Manager Tom Ciciora, KA9QPN, SK

ARRL is sad to report that Thomas "Tom" T. Ciciora, KA9QPN, of Sandwich, Illinois, has become a silent key. He was 66 years old. Ciciora served as the Section Manager of the ARRL Illinois Section from 2006 - 2017. He was an ARRL Life Member.

According to an obituary, Ciciora was active in several amateur radio clubs and had been the director of the Sandwich Emergency Management Agency.
